Shoaib Akhtar – the fastest man in cricket…to get onto the treatment table in the physio room!
I was standing next to “Ellio” ( John Elliot, the Worcestershire Chairman) when he made the statement referred to in this link – see the section on English County Cricket. Gee I had a laugh when I read this! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoaib_Akhtar
He could bowl fast though!
Chaminda Vaas – Sri Lanka Legend had frequent lower back pain – the curse of the seam bowlers!
One of my most enjoyable times at Worcester was mingling with the Australian Cricket Team during their 2005 Pre-Ashes tour match. There was such hype in Worcester at the time. Here Glenn McGrath obligingly gazes out over the pitch towards Worcester Cathedral, seen reflected in his sunnies….
Tom Moody was coach at the time, and boy when he had a stiff back, you knew you had your work cut out for you! Just look at the size of him!!
I even had to pull the whites on a few times. I’ve “played” at The Oval in London, and at Old Trafford, in Manchester. Seriously – here’s the scoreboard at Old Trafford to prove it….
…and here’s me in the whites at Leicester
…getting ready to carry the drinks of course!!!!
I’ve stood in the footsteps of champions….The Visitor’s dressing room at Lords has an awesome sense of history, and reading through the honour boards was jaw dropping
